What is Ekadashi - Meaning and the Importance of Fasting

Ekadasi, also called Ekadasi, is the eleventh lunar day of all those two lunar stages that happen in a vedic calendar month - the Shukla Pakṣa along with also the Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa. 

Ekadashi is thought to It happens on the day of both lunar cycles of this month, Krishna & Shukla Paksha. According to ancient Aztec, the Ekadashi fast spans within a span of 3 days.  On the very first day (Dashami), in other words, a day before the rapid, devotees cherish one meal at the day hours to make sure there is not any residual food within the body, the following moment.

History of Ekadashi

In Satyuga, there dwelt a Demon named Murdanav.  He terrorized all fantastic people and devotees around the ground in addition to the scared all of the Devaas also.   They jumped lord Vishnu to shield them.   He took off instantly on His fastest automobile "Garuda".  He fought for 1000 years using Murdanav of incredible strength and he had been battling with complete electricity and power.  So Lord Vishnu decided to alter his plan. 

Lord, Vishnu acted like He Was exhausted from the conflict and concealed in a cave in Himalayas.  He chose to have a rest in this massive cave.   Lord Vishnu and his ten senses and the brain inside, has been taking a break. 

Murdanav attained to the cave by pursuing lord Vishnu.  He watched him sleeping within the cave and followed him.  As he was going to swing the sword, suddenly a very beautiful & glowing lady playing a sword arose out of lord Vishnu's body. 

Murdanav lured for her attractiveness She stated, "I'd marry who will defeat me in battle" Murdanav agreed to her suggestion.  He began fighting that celestial woman.  Finally during the struggle that celestial woman defeated & slayed Murdanav. 

Hearing the sound of struggle, Lord Vishnu awakened and saw that woman who murdered Murdanav.  Lord Vishnu known as that woman, who arose from afar, by the title Ekadashi.   Lord Vishnu pleased with her deed & stated to ask a blessing.  The Ekadashi requested to Lord Vishnu who'because I evolved out of the Ekadash Indriyas (twenty five perceptions of the body) I will be called Ekadashi.  I'm full of penance, therefore I desire that individuals should watch Ekadashi Vrat and restrain their Ekadash Indriyas (Senses) on this afternoon.  On the afternoon of the Vrat, nobody should eat grains like wheat, rice, legumes etc.

Types of Ekadashi

·         Nirjala Ekadashi: To pass the whole day without eating or drinking anything.

·         Sajala Ekadashi: To pass the whole day on water and juice.

·         Farali Ekadashi: To consume Only Fruits and Milk.

What if we eat & what if we never eat on the day of Ekadashi? 

·         Not to eat anything is best

·         Otherwise, an individual could drink water or fruit juice

·         Otherwise, an individual could eat fruits and veggies

·         Otherwise, an individual could cook & eat a couple of falahari things.
